Gamethread: Twins at White Sox

Ace opener: Lucas Giolito looks to pick up right where he left off against the Twins from last Wednesday. (Clinton Cole/South Side Hit Pen)

Time: 7:10 CST

TV: NBC Sports Chicago +

Radio: WGN-720

  • Cy Young candidate Lucas Giolito gets the start for the White Sox tonight. Giolito threw one of the best games of his career in his last outing against these same Twinkies last week. He can now say he has thrown a nine-inning, complete-game shutout against the Twins and Astros this season. Impressive stuff, Lucas. Hopefully he can keep it up tonight.
  • Michael Pineda gets the ball for the Twins. The Sox faced Pineda last week in Minny, when he gave up four earned runs over seven innings.
  • Lineups: I’m tipping my cap to Ricky for this one. I don’t see Jon Jay batting in front of Anderson or Eloy, so this is promising.

Let me dream for a bit. Let’s replace Engel/Garcia with Robert, Sanchez with Madrigal, and sign/move Anthony Rendon to first and DH Abreu. You good with that for next year?

OK, here’s what the Twins will bring tonight.

Giolito falls behind early, but he is mighty close to 200 strikeouts on the season now.

And there is No. 200! Reminder that he had only 125 in 173 1/3 innings last year. Mercy! Now, time to score some runs.

Giolito has been terrific since those two solo homers.

I’ve had the game on in the background while I was working on homework, and now, with my full attention, I’ve noticed that he has rebounded nicely!

Nelson Cruz is only 1-for-3 with a single tonight. That’s unusual!

Okay, 2-for-4 with two singles now. Still worse than usual against the Sox!
